Step Nine: TESTING
It’s a pretty good idea to test everything before we start making coasters, so lets run it off the HD first. Make sure you’ve got a pruned down command directory on your boot drive. It can be the one we’ll make the floppy image from too. Put all the necessary files in there (get them from a Microsoft made boot CD). You can cut out lots of stuff here. At the end of this article I’m going to include what’s in all my directories, so you can have a look there to get an idea what you need or not.
Make sure that while testing from the HD, your autoexec.bat points to the zipped windows and programs directories. If you’ve set everything up right, now you can run this system off the HD with no problem. I use a boot menu with WindowsXP and this windows98on ramdisk. At any rate, fire it up and cross your fingers. When it actually works, test everything and thoroughly. If you want it to work on your CD, make sure it works here. I made the mistake of deleting one too many files from my Partition magic directory and it failed me when I needed it. |
