Why?
Why would you, I, or anyone want to create a copy of windows on a CD? Isn’t it hard enough to make windows work correctly from a Hard disk? Here are some reasons why you might want a cd that runs Windows.
1) SECURITY and ANONOMITY: One of todays main concerns are viruses. But if your system is fundamentally read only, a viruses could never get in an modify it. A fresh boot and say by to the viruses. The second highest concern seems to be spyware and internet sites that utilizes cookies in questionable ways. With windows on a cd, you do not save your cookies. It’s like wiping the slate clean at every reboot.
2) System Administration and Repair: If you know what it’s like to repair all your friends systems, get rid of viruses, and the like, you know how useful a stand alone OS might be – you can remove the viruses from the installed system without having to reinstall it. And deployment of certain tools could be notably easier. And you wouldn’t have to search for and install the tools you need to get your friends system up and running again, cause you’ve got them all in your wallet. If you are like me and everyone who knows you calls to get their computer fixed, this is a great tool for you.
3) Kewl Factor. Linux geeks have Knoppix and Damn Small linux, both incredible tools which recognize lots of hardware, automatically set up internet connections, provide thousands (literally) of tools and fit on credit card sized cd’s. Why shouldn’t MS users be able to have something similar? Well, they should. And best of all, the Windows variety doesn’t leave you with the ugly as hell look of those linux fonts and messy file managers. With Windows, you know what it looks like, and it looks pretty darn nice. Are there other reasons? Sure, I imagine you can come up with quite a few. But instead of discussing why, why not get going with the how (what you’ve all been waiting for)? |
